Heartburn & Acid Reflux Home Remedies: Top 5 Natural Cures that Actually Work
FIVE: Fight Acid With Acid
I know you are probably thinking this is a bad idea but it actually makes sense. Acid influxes are not caused by excessive acids. It’s quite the opposite.
You get it because you have a little. When you have enough, the acid tells the LES that “all is good here, you can close up tight now”.
When you don’t have enough, the LES relaxes a little. So, to get your acid level back to where it should be, try some apple cider vinegar.
FOUR: Banana or Apple
A banana or apple (or even both) is a good way to keep heartburn at bay. They are good antacids. You know what they say about an apple a day right?
THREE: Chew Gum
Do you notice that when you have heartburn you tend to swallow saliva a lot? Well, saliva is a good base that can neutralize the acid.
The best way to use it to your advantage is chewing a lot of gum. This stimulates the salivary glands to produce more and more saliva.
With saliva to neutralize, even if the reflux happens again it will be painless.
TWO: Hold off the alcohol/Cigarette
This can be a very good time to keep of the vodka for a while. It may even be the thing that caused the heartburn in the first place.
Cigarettes and alcohol are the worst enemies to your LES. They weaken it making you prone to refluxes more often.
ONE: Baking Soda
If you have ever gone to school, you know very well that acids are neutralized by bases.
That is the whole point of curing heartburn. You introduce a base such as baking soda to neutralize it. All you need to do is mix a little of it with water and drink.
